Faihriem is the name of a clan as well as a dialect (language) spoken by a small group of people known by that name. The clan is composed of many sub-clans like Bapui, Khawral, Tuollai, Tusing, Khawlum, Thlanghnung, Saihmar, Tuimuol, Seiling, Saivate, Sekawng, Khawhreng, Darnei, Khawkieng, Sakum, Hmunthra, Aimuol, KHUOLHRING, VANGSIE, Pautu, NGENTE and Zawngte. The Faihriem or Saihriem dialect is still spoken in some villages of Cachar Dist of Assam, India

FAIHRIEM (or Saihriem) is the name of one of the major clans of the Sinlung (Chhinlung) tribes. They share the same paternal lineage with the Khawlhring, Vangchhia (Vangsie), Pautu, Jongte (Zawngte) ang Ngente clans. They are the descendants of Berhvate. Originally Berhvate's tribe name was MIVAM ('Mi' means people and 'Vam' means white or pure, thus 'White or Pure people') which bared the same meaning with FAIHRIEM ('Fai' means pure, 'Hriem' means people, thus 'Pure People'). Berhvate having 3sons namely Saivate, Chunthang & Ngendum. The Faihriem clans includesthe descendants of SAIVATE(Bapui, Khawral, Tusing, Tuollai, Thlanghnung, Khawlum, Saivate, Seiling, Hmunthra, Sekong, Khawhreng, Saihmar, Tuimuol, Aimuol, Khawkhieng etc.), and descendants of NGENDUM &CHUNTHANG [Apeng, Buang, Chhuakling, Chunthang, Lamsial, Leidir, Lozun, Lúngen, Midâng, Milai, Nêlriam, Ngente, Palâng, Parte, Pautu (Buanzal, Chhingate, Chhehhlawn, Tluangate), Pialtel, Rawlchhim, Thlaute,Thurtim, Vangchhia (Dochil,Invang, Theiduh, Tlukte, Vanghawi & Zapte), Vanzang, Zahring, Zawngte,etc.]
The descendants of SAIVATEhave their own dialect which is still spoken in some villages of Cachar District in the state of Assam, India and they still bared their tribe name as FAIHRIEM. They are scattered though out Manipur, Assam, Tripura and Mizoram State. The descendants of Ngendum can be found in Manipur and Mizoram State. The descendants of Chunthang have their own dialect called Khawlhring (originally Khualhring) and they are called Khawlhirng,Vangchhia & Pautu. They are mostly scattered in Mizoram and some in Bangladesh (they are calledPalang), Tripura, and Manipur. The FAIHRIEM had many famous and great chiefs namely SALAWNKHAR FAIHRIEM, TUSING SAIVATE, TANHRIL SAIVATE, LERSIA (Lersi), LALMICHHINGA (of Khawlhring Midang) (the last chief of Khawlhring Kingdom), LAIDUMBELA (of Vangchhia Dochil)(Chief of Vangchhia clan, minor chiefunder Khawlhring Kingdom), ZAKUALA (of Khawlhring Lungen, minor chief under Khawlhring Kingdom), HAUCHEMA - VANHNUAIHAUCHEM A (of Khawlhring Lungen, minor chief under Khawlhring Kingdom), etc.
